Difficulty Rating

 

The difficulty rating is a mixture of art and science. Devised by Pat Baransky and Tom Cottrell, the rating is more a subjective guideline and less an objective measurement. Length of race is not the only definer and there is a wide range of difficulty points for each course distance.

A course that is easy, well suited for novices. There are few if any difficulties
2
This route has a few small challenges and is by and large gently undulating
3
Moderate and well balanced, this is a race requiring some effort
4
These events take you out of your comfort zone. Whether short or long, the courses are testing
5
Races with this rating are legends, unashamedly difficult, no quarter is asked for nor given.
