Pre-entries are taken online at either www.enteronline.co.za or www.umhlathuze-ac.co.za up to Wednesday 25 March 2009. You can also enter on the day before the race at Addison Park between 14h00 and 17h00, or on race day between 04h00 and 05h15.

Route Type: Out and back
This scenic course is well balanced with some hill climbing in the second half of the race, around the 30-kilometre mark. The marathon starts with a loop around the suburbs of Empangeni before heading out of town on the Western Bypass. Here there is time to enjoy the exquisite countryside that is uniquely Zululand as you run through the sugar fields and farmlands. Drink deeply as you run past a vast expanse of water. Ah Zululand, you are so beautiful. The road leads past the airport and the turning point is at the Owen Sithole Agricultural College. The race is renowned for its excellent water tables.

| Prizes and Give-Aways: |
| All category winners receive prize money and all finishers win medals. All finishers of the five-kilometre Fun Run also win medals. There are lucky-dip prizes up for grabs. |

Traditionally this has been one of the last Comrades qualifiers in KwaZulu-Natal. There is a half marathon run/walk event with a 03:30 cut-off time.
