Pre-entries close on 23 January 2009. Late entries are taken at the start from 05h00. Blind runners and Grand Masters enjoy free entry.

| Route Description: |
Route Type: Lap The marathon is two laps of the half marathon route. The course is mainly fast and flat with gradual gradients. There is a fairly challenging 900-metre long hill in the last third of the lap. The race is run through the residential, industrial and commercial precincts of Sasolburg.

| Prizes and Give-Aways: |
| Category winners in all three races win gold medals. All finishers of the marathon who make the 05:00 cut-off win silver medals and finishers of the half marathon who make the 03:00 cut-off win bronze medals. All finishers in the 10-kilometre race get 38 mm bronze medals. The first 350 men and women in the half marathon and marathon get T-shirts. |

Walkers are welcome to participate in the half marathon, which has a 3-hour cut off time and 10-kilometre, which has a 2-hour cut off time. The Sasol Marathon has earned a reputation for its refreshment tables, usually placed two kilometres apart.
