| Route Description: |
Route Type: Circular A race around a dam? What a good idea. The Cavanagh moved to the Wagendrift Dam and shortened the course to 52 kilometres. Although the race is tough, it does take in all the splendour of the Drakensburg Mountains, the infamous Poort and the ‘Nine Hills’.
At this time of the year the cosmos is out in full glory, the panoramic sweep of the game reserve gives the race a country feel. The organisers have gone to great lengths and even cut a 500 metre path through the bush, just so you experience the thunderous power of the Bushman’s River flowing over the dam wall. To be sure, this is a race off the beaten track and is a welcome change from the monotony of the tarred roads.

| Editor's Notes: |
This race is a long-standing fixture on the KwaZulu-Natal race calendar and is named after Tony Cavanagh who in 1972 was the main instigator of a testing training run in the district. It is a Comrades qualifier and times are taken at the marathon mark although you must complete the full distance.
There is also a social 10-kilometre run and walk to view the dam wall.
Finishers: 300 Time Limit: 07:00 |
