Postal entries close two weeks before the event. Faxed entries are also accepted together with a bank deposit slip confirming payment to 086-5672561. Banking details are as follows: Absa Bank, Bethlehem Marathon Club, Acc. no. 712359757. Late entries are taken at the start between 04h30 and 05h45. Grand Masters enjoy free entry.

Route Type: Point to point
Starting in Clarens, running through the mountains and returning to Clarens, this is a race with great reward, for the magnificent view of the mountains is both memorable and breathtaking. Surrender Hill is a historical site where more than 4 000 Boers, under General Marthinus Prinsloo, surrendered to the British during the Anglo-Boer War.
There are a number of demanding challenges on this route. Make no mistake; this course is tough, at times unrelenting. But during this race, more than almost any other, you will find that the wonderful scenery, coupled with the champagne air, fully compensates for the rigour of a hard marathon.

| Editor's Notes: |
This race was run for the first time in 1994. Both Clarens and Fouriesburg boast a rich historical heritage, including a number of dinosaur fossil findings in the area. There is much to do here, with the remarkable sandstone cliffs at Golden Gate National Park, beautiful guest farms and flourishing art galleries. A half marathon is organised from Clarens at the same time and has a 02:30 cut-off. Walkers may also enter the half marathon. The four-and-a-half-kilometre fun run starts at 07h00.
