Maritzburg City Marathon set for another record field

Despite the Witness Medihelp Maritzburg City Marathon cap being raised by 25% on the 2017 record field, and then a further 500 being made available, a last minute surge in entries forced the organisers to call an early close on the 42.2km standard marathon distance, last night.

Pre entries for all events are scheduled to close at 18H00 this evening with on line entries, paid by credit card only, being accepted until midnight this Sunday.  Entries can be made via the race web site at www.pmb42.co.za or, manually, today, at Poobie Naidoo Sports in Boshoff Street or the Race Office at the Golden Horse Casino.

Once the entries close, we have tidied up the data base and sent it off for the printing of race numbers, we’ll know how many 10km and trail entries will be available for sale at race weekend” said race organiser John Hall. “Those still desperate to take part in the qualifying marathon have a ‘back door’. We cater, each year for 300 Charity Entries in each of the marathon and half. The marathon charity entries have already become available at a cost of R500 each and the half marathon entries, at a premium of R400, will be on sale, at the race office, from Monday.

Those still wishing to pre-enter and qualify for a commemorative race shirt should do so today. After close today, only charity marathon and half entrants will be entitled to the free shirts. There is a choice of 7km and 15km trails runs, which take place on the Saturday morning of Marathon weekend. There are full and half marathon distances and a 10km option. The 42.2km and 21.1km races will start at 5.30am on Marathon Sunday with the 10km taking off at 9.30am.
