This quietly undulating route has been successfully designed to avoid the main road hazards of Randburg. After a quick start down Republic Road you are first presented with Silver Pine’s climb, gently and gradual for about three kilometres to the first water station. Then follows a gradual downhill drop to about the seven-kilometre mark and the second water station. The sturdy kilometre climb up Maria may well slow you some, but this section of road is made more palatable by candles and other festive lights which guide you up this final climb to the summit, where a bagpipe serenade awaits. At the eight-kilometre mark the route finally flattens out for a final run back to Malibongwe Drive and a pleasant drop onto the sports fields washed with spotlights.
