The Cradle Half Marathon takes place in the Kromdraai Conservancy which is part of the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. This area has been called the Cradle of Humankind because it has a number of sites containing the fossilised remains of some of the earliest members of the human family, as well as the first tools ever used. Although there are other sites in South and East Africa that have the fossilised remains of our earliest ancestors and relatives, the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site produced the highest concentration of these kinds of fossils. The nature and quality of the fossils here are truly unique. The venue has a single entrance so be sure to arrive early. The start of the race tends to be a bit cool in the morning.
