To run this race well your restraint will pay dividends in the first half. The course starts with a fast downhill stretch, crossing Barry Hertzog Avenue into Gullane Road through the beautiful Suburb of Greenside. From here there is an easy run into Clovelly Road, right into Greenhill Road with a quick downhill, right again into Mowbray Road. Turn into Greenside Road with the Parkview golf course on your right. Say “Hi” as you run past my house. This stretch of Road is very scenic lined with beautiful trees. At the end of Greenside Road you meet a short climb up The Braids, Barnton and Troon Roads.
The real work comes in the second half after turning right into Emmarentia Avenue with more than two kilometres of uphill grind. The Parkview Golf course is on your right. Relief only comes after turning into Carlow Road after crossing the Barry Hertzog Bridge with just more than two kilometres to go. You feel good in Rustenburg Road enjoying the scenic rock formation. The bad news is at the end of Rustenburg Road where you meet some tough short climbs into Sabie, Niger and Judith Roads. Once you turn right into Orange, it is downhill all the way until turning into Marks Park Grass Oval.
